Tasty ‘N Tender
Tender Greens is a fast-casual organic restaurant with locations all over California. The chain was started in 2006 after three chefs, Erik Oberholtzer, David Dressler and Matt Lyman, found a way by working with a Southern California area farm to offer organic meats and produce at a cost much lower than most similar organic establishments in the area.
The success of the operation has been nothing short of amazing. Mainly going via word-of-mouth with no coupons or discounting, the restaurants regularly draw lengthy lines at all times of the day to enjoy their salads, soups and sandwiches.
Up until 2010, their web presence consisted of an all-Flash site connected to a third-party online ordering company with no mobile capabilities at all. dataTV was brought in originally to fix issues regarding the Flash website but after a series of discussions, the owners decided to scrap the majority of their Flash presentation for a new web presence that would work with all mobile devices regardless if it could accept Flash or not.
To that end, dataTV integrated a new Content Management System with a revolutionary e-commerce online ordering component that, like their organic vegetables, was built from the ground up. The new site allowed the client to insert and update their own content and trigger a mobile version once most major mobile web browsers were detected.
The online ordering system connected with their turnkey point-of-sale system to process and store orders, as well as remember customer orders so a returning customer could easily reorder a favorite dish quickly. An AJAX-based Nutrition Calculator allowed users to learn caloric and nutritional information for the majority of their menu items. Salad lovers could easily find out the calorie count for their favorite salads, with or without the dressing. As with the Online Ordering system, the Nutrition Calculator was built entirely from scratch.
The results have seen online orders go up and a major POS integration company has requested a system based on Tender Greens’ system be developed by dataTV. In addition, dataTV is producing a touch screen application for the restaurant’s chefs to access various recipes from the restaurant along with photos and videos. Not to mention reducing the usage of paper in the various restaurants.
dataTV, with its years of experience in restaurant web applications, is pleased to be working with such an innovative operation that is producing not just exceptional food but innovative online ideas as well.
